If you've been following MelodramaticProductions at all, we've done a few new things. Just to catch up, redesigned logo, YouTube page, Facebook page, and a few new films! They're doing well. The first, "Poison," was mostly a test done with our new camera, so not a crazy storyline, but a tad entertaining. The newest addition to our film family is "The Pen." We are very proud of it and are happy to be gaining traction on views and getting friendly feedback, it's encouraging. Here are a couple links.
We're not dead! After getting a few things in order and upgrading a here and there, we recently put together a new short, "Poison." It's about half a day's work, and we're happy with it.
I’ve never been good with New Years resolutions. It’s usually silly things like be healthy, more organized. Yeah, that never happens. Here’s what I’m serious about though. And I’m serious, not in a cliché way or anything. Truth be told? I love making movies, short films to be specific. There’s always been a few problems though. I rarely ever do it in an organized fashion, and I didn’t ever have them under a label which I think makes you care about them so much more. At any rate, I’ve decided to do that coming the beginning of this New Year.
Previously, my friends had gone under the label of Entourage Productions. I was always encouraged to make a film with them, almost did on a few occasions, but then again, there were a few problems. Things like where I live, meeting, and idea ownership became difficult. Idea. New label? Sounds great! Now exactly who is that with? Great. Now my idea is crushed. Well, no. I realized creating a new label allowed me to do a few things.
How is it going to work? What am I going to make? Short films are a great venue to work on. They can be funny, sad, dramatic, and they don’t require a ton of effort. 5 minutes is considered a good max as not to loose an audience. Also, spoofs, which fall under funny, but are much shorter than short films, are great too. I’ve done those, again, unofficially (meaning not sharing, or publishing) and they were great fun to make. So I may end up concentrating on those fields for productions.
What am I using for video/audio? I’ve had a Nikon camera for a while. A Nikon D5000. It has fairly decent video, but audio problems inevitably arise. It’s a still camera, and not dedicated to video. Video is good, but audio is terrible. However, I have a Yeti Microphone which does fantastic audio and I recently found out it can be used as a boom mic! I need to find the cord to use it with my camera. I could also have it record into GarageBand on and iPad. So, I’m not sure how to go about that, but I have a few options nonetheless.
How often would I publish films? I don’t know if I would have a set routine where they are published by this day, this time. It may be spontaneous. At most, monthly. That would give enough time to write, film, edit, produce, etc.
Name? Melodramatic Productions struck me. So I’ll use that!
So there’s my New Years Resolution! I hope it’s one I stick to, and I hope I can put out a lot in 2012 that’s worth watching.
Happy New Years!
